Writing Task 2 - 2 Part Question - Topic: History & Buildings

Old buildings and houses, living through different generations of ownership and periods of time, are never just a mere accommodation as they are holding prominent intrinsic values, enticing the minds of many old house enthusiasts. As such, apparently, a new trend has emerged around the world in which not only historians and archeologists, but ordinary people also are making sheer attempts to attain insight into their own property's past, trying to reveal the hidden facts that were ‘buried’ inside their own homes.

Curiosity is at the forefront of most people's human nature, therefore, it doesn't come as a surprise when people are in question of their house's history. In fact, it tends to get the homeowners on the edge of their seats if they are in the belief that their house used to be the location in which a haunted soul might have possibly resided in; or a hidden spot where a forbidden love thrived. On the other hand, learning about one's location history could arguably elicit positive financial impacts for the residents; since should the house be proven to carry a rich history, for example, the architecture reflecting remnants of war times, or the past owner being a significant historical figure; the building’s real estate values would almost instantaneously rocket in the housing market.

The easiest way to self-research a location’s history would perhaps be interviewing the people that had once lived there or those living in the neighborhood, specifically the elders, who most likely knew vividly what happened, and more importantly, are more willing when it comes to sharing stories of the past. Another effective way is to look up relevant articles or videos on the internet. There are thousands of freelancers nowadays that are making a living by writing blogs for house lovers such as ‘retro renovation’ or ‘old house dreams’. Besides, professional archeologists and historians are also professions that focus on researching historic architects and locations, and thus their research papers should be a great source of reference to enlighten one's knowledge about their homes.

In brief, housing with historical backgrounds and untold secrets are such valuable gems urging the inquisitive minds to dig deep into, presumably in order to either satisfy the curiosity in their human's nature, or to accurately evaluate the house's values for real estate purposes. Though there are a plethora of reference options, it's believed that seeking information directly from the older aged existing or former neighbors, who had been in contact with the past owners, would possibly be the most reliable source.
