IELTS Writing Task 1 - Graph Chart Table - Dealing with mixed charts: Bar & Table - Topic: Export Value

The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

A nation's revenues from exporting commodities in five industries was depicted in the bar chart, whereas each industry’s earning's variation between 2015 and 2016 was demonstrated in the table. Over the 2-year period, all of these sectors, except for gems and jewelry, experienced growth. In addition, while petroleum products gained the most receipts, exported textiles were the least profitable.

In 2015, petroleum and engineering were leading industries with earnings of about $60 billion and $58 billion respectively. In 2016, both sectors displayed improvement in revenues. However, engineered exports, recorded at 8.5% growth, earned almost three times as much as petroleum, at only 3% growth. On the other hand, gem and jewelry, whose total receipts were ranked at the third place, was the only industry suffering a considerable 5% downturn, dropping to roughly $41 billion in 2016.

Following closely gem and jewelry was takings from agriculture, which grew marginally by just a little over 0.8%, hovering around $30 billion in both years. Lastly, in spite of gaining the least among five sectors, textile earnings showcased the most remarkable hike by almost 15.3% from $25 billion to achieve more than $31 billion by 2016. As a result, export value of agriculture was the same as textiles’ in 2016.
